Replay: Iran unleashes drones in revenge strike as Israel warns attack expected in war escalation

View of Tel Aviv skyline after Iran unleashed a massive drone attack on Israel on Saturday night.

Booming explosions were heard in the skies above Jerusalem, as air sirens wailed and terrified residents ran to bomb shelters.

More than 300 drones and missiles were launched at Israel by Iran and its proxy groups in Lebanon and Yemen - 99 per cent of which were intercepted, according to Israeli military.

Israeli military scrambled dozens of fighter jets to intercept "all aerial threats" after Iran fired 185 drones, 36 cruise missiles, and 110 ballistic missiles at the country.

Israel warned citizens to find cover as the drones will take several hours to arrive, expected to hit around midnight (2am local time).

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said: "We have prepared for diverse scenarios in advance.

"In order to intercept these launches, we have the circles of protection from both the navy and the air force on several layers.

He explained the aircraft will take "several hours" to reach Israel and sirens will sound.
