KEITH SCOTT: misinformation is causing riots

(0400 EST) There have been only two pieces of information released since the shooting of Keith Scott: 1) Chief of Police Kerr Putney said he had a gun. 2) This angry Facebook stream from Scott's daughter. THAT'S IT. THERE HAVE BEEN NO OFFICIAL STATEMENTS MADE YET. The riots have already started though. Dozens of people are injured, lots of property has been damaged, and I-85 is even shut down at the moment. Video has been released of the protesters trying to break into a Walmart.

STORY:
Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police were searching for a wanted suspect at the Village at College Downs apartments Tuesday afternoon when they ran into Keith Lamont Scott. Officers on scene stated that they observed a man (Scott) get out of a vehicle armed with a gun. Police approached the man after he had gotten back in to his car. As police drew closer to the Scott, he stepped out of the car with the gun pointed towards police and an officer shot him.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Kerr Putney stated that the man posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers. Officers immediately began performing CPR and rendering first aid to Scott after the shooting. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

The shooting officer has been identified as Officer Brentley Vinson. Both men are black.

Police have recovered the firearm that Keith Lamont Scott was holding when he was shot.

A woman at the scene of the shooting who claimed to be Scott’s daughter live-streamed on Facebook for over an hour.

On the Facebook stream the woman can be heard screaming “they shot my daddy, he didn’t have no gun.” and “they just plantin shit, they shot my mo***f*****n daddy four times for being black”. One officer walked by the woman filming and she states “he probably rapes his m*****f****** daughter” towards the officer.

She continued to call the officers ugly and shout profanities at them.

In the Facebook video you can see a crowd gathering and shouting insults at the officers. One man can be heard yelling “put your guns down and we’ll fight you” to the police.

A local news reporter was told by family members and neighbors that Keith Lamont Scott “was only reading a book“.
